Hyrum's BULL RIDE!

The before picture:

What do you get when you combine bull riding and steer wrestling in one event???

Hyrum's first "bull ride". A lot of the kids were riding these small, gentle jersey calves that would just trot around the arena. Hyrum got a half-grown Holstein steer that Ev couldn't keep a hold of. Anyway, Hyrum loved it and keeps telling people that he rides bulls. His mother hopes that he'll grow out of that phase soon enough! Thanks to Ashlee for videoing this (PS-Hyrum is the first one on this video that goes out)

Remembering the pioneers....

Hyrum got to be in his first ever parade for the 24th of July celebration in Enterprise. He is on the top row, 3rd from the right looking down with his black and blue hat (he was getting a piece of candy to throw for Riley and I) and Brooke is just left of him. They were dressed as scripture heroes and sang "Scripture Power" the whole way down the route.

I ran the 5K at a time of just under 39 minutes...not my best time but my excuse is that I was running with a friend. We had fun.

We ate a picnic at friends house, went to the foot races, and played in the water at the park. We got to see the rodeo and just had a fun weekend.

Here is Hyrum with his "Buzzy Buzz". Evan wouldn't let me cut his hair, so I took it out on Hy.... ;) And Evan and Riley remembered the pioneers the best, by taking a nap in an a/c house in a soft comfy bed :)

Parental Concerns

This afternoon, Riley came home looking like this:Notice that she's cross-eyed? Anyone who knows me, knows that I tend to overreact about anything. So, now I'm all concerned that Riley has a medical problem or something or might end up looking like this:
I blame Evan for this. He's always wanted a child with lazy eye. After he stopped laughing at Riley's eye, he said, "Well, now we won't have to pray for acne when she turns 16." Oh gee.

Gunlock & Stickhorse Rodeos

Gunlock, Utah has a rodeo for the 4th of July. Not quite as redneck as the Stone, Idaho rodeo, but close. Hy rode his steer (*still need to post the video of that...details to come) and then the kids played in the dirt with their friends.
The Bowlers are friends of ours here in Enterprise. Paige is Hyrum's age and Luke is Riley's age. Hmmm....perfect family to go into the wilderness with, right? So this picture is the first night before the Gunlock rodeo but we're going to imagine this is the stickhorse rodeo from last Saturday. *I left the camera in the car, so Evan had it. But I have lots of entertaining video footage on my camcorder for grandparents and any other bored soul who would like to watch it....

They didn't win any prizes at the stick horse rodeo but they had fun and were good sports.

Fourth of July

Shamefully exploiting my children at the parade to get candy. It worked. Does anyone else take out a "mommy tax" on the good parade candy? The 4-wheeler train. This is about how enthusiatic they were the whole ride.

The princess bounce house. Riley wouldn't come out. The girl taking tickets had to go in and get her.

And the slip n' slide!

We got invited to a dutch oven dinner with the Christiansen's at the reservior...turns out her dad is the owner of Marv's. Yeah, it was GOOD.

Ballerina

Thanks for the leotard, Aunt Janelle. It's official now. Riley says she's a ballerina.

LRRH

Stands for Little Red Riding Hood. It's an all-female bike race starting & ending in Lewiston, Utah. Janelle & I decided to do it this winter in correlation with her bridal shower. I had big dreams of doing the century, then the 36-miler, and finally decided just to do the 18-miler. Turns out that was probably a good idea. I was dying just trying to keep up with Janelle (speedy little deamon). Anyway, I loved it and had so much fun with Nellers. Hopefully we'll get to do more of these in the future :)

Goodbye Story Hour Friends

*Hayden is the little boy by Hyrum. Hy was a little in awe of the big fireman.

*Hyrum & Riley are the very left of this picLiving in Spring Valley had its perks. One of those was the way fun story hour group from the library. We LOVED Miss Hillary, and Hy & Ri made some cute little friends from the group. One little boy was Hayden and his dad worked for the fire department in Ely. So before we moved, they wanted to have one last "McDonald's party/visit the firestation." It was lots of fun.

Hy was actually really nervous at the fire station. Come to find out, he was really nervous that that they were going to make him climb the tall ladder and drive the truck by himself. Ri was having a ball and didn't want come out of the truck or ambulance.
